Fly from Keflavik to Narsarsuaq. Situated amidst the great fertile plains from where Greenland got its name, the town of 140 residents was an American air base up to 1941.
Today it is the gateway to South Greenland from where you can take a boat trip to get closer to the ice cap at Qooroq, visit the sheep farming village where Erik the Red had once settled and the interesting Narsarsuaq Museum.

You will also visit the eastern settlement of Qaqortoq where you can experience the art, culture and lives of people; relax in the Uunartoq hot springs and take a boat trip to the best preserved Norse ruins at Hvalsey.

Below is a 4 day / 3 night sample itinerary to give you a general idea of our South Greenland Heritage & History trip starting from Keflavik:

Day 1 - Narsarsuaq & Qooroq Ice fjord

Take a 2.5 hour flight from Keflavik to Narsarsuaq, the gateway to South Greenland.
You can visit the interesting museum to learn more about life through the ages.
In the evening you have a boat tour to the Qooroq ice fjord to enjoy the midnight sun and fantastic views of the glacier. You will also enjoy a cocktail made with glacial ice.
Overnight at Hotel Narsarsuaq.

Day 2 - Qassiarsuk & Qaqortoq

In the morning transfer by boat to the ancient Viking settlement of Qassiarsuk. Settled by Eric the Red over 1000 years ago, farmers still cultivate the same lands today. You will also visit the Brattahlid open-air museum.
Later transfer by boat from Qassiarsuk to Qaqortoq where your local guide will take you on a walking tour of the town and to the Great Greenland tannery.
Overnight at Hotel Qaqortoq.

Day 3 -Uunartoq Hot Springs

Take a boat tour to the island of Uunartoq where you can relax in the famous hot springs and enjoy spectacular views of the sea and icebergs floating by.

Day 4 - Hvalsey Church Ruins & Departure

In the morning take a boat tour to the Hvalsey Fjord to visit the best-preserved Norse ruins in Greenland and get an insight into Viking history.
Once back in Qaqortoq, you will have a boat transfer back to Narsarsuaq from where you can catch your flight back to Iceland.
