Follow the Northern Lights

Starting from: Reykjavik or Keflavik

Season: 1st Sep-10th Apr

Duration: 6+ days

Highlights: Northern Lights!

7/12

Follow The Northern Lights - this is our signature northern lights tour and the best way to maximise your chances of seeing the northern lights while in Iceland.

Most northern lights tours follow a fixed sightseeing itinerary and hope to catch the auroras in the evenings at pre-fixed locations. We turn this idea on its head: Since hunting down the fickle auroras is the priority, we closely monitor and follow the aurora forecasts to maintain a flexible sightseeing & overnight schedule.

During the day you will visit the beautiful natural sights of Iceland which are in the region where you are travelling. We will make sure you visit all the must-see attractions as well as lesser-known local favourites.
In the evenings, you will be in the areas where the northern lights are most likely to show.

Your hotel bookings are made at a short notice, about 1-2 days in advance depending on the forecast, by our office staff so you can focus on enjoying the holiday.

During the night you should have higher chances of seeing the northern lights, which is why our Follow The Northern Lights tour format is the optimal way of hunting for auroras in Iceland!

The itinerary is completely flexible as we only determine 1-2 days in advance where to travel and where to stay. We will make use of our Iceland travel expertise, road conditions & weather forecasts, and the short-term aurora forecasts to guide you to the region(s) or place(s) in Iceland that maximise your chances of catching the northern lights during your trip - and enjoy amazing sightseeing around Iceland as you travel between overnight locations.

Longer tours in the same format are possible - more days will increase your chances even further and there is no shortage of exciting natural sights to discover in Iceland. Shorter tours than 6 days are possible but then it will be more difficult to hunt for the auroras in the regions that are furthest away from Reykjavik.

We highly recommend:
- A longer trip as opposed to a shorter one, to further increase your chances of seeing the northern lights during the trip and make the most of your time in Iceland.
- A private guided tour with our local driver guide, because of the more focused day travelling and the often difficult winter driving conditions during northern lights season.
