Finnish Lakeland Drive

Follow the Kings' Road around Finland's Lake District to experience the beauty and peace of the Finnish countryside. Drive around Finland's biggest lakes, explore the National Parks and enjoy the nature on this fantastic self-drive.

Day 1 - Pick up your rental car. Drive from Helsinki to Imatra where you spend the night. En route stop to visit the medieval town of Porvoo, Finland's second oldest town. Overnight in Imatra.

Day 2 - Visit the Punkharju Ridge for breathtaking lake views, the medieval castle in Savonlinna and the world's oldest church at Kerimaki. Stop at the Valamo monastery. Overnight in Joensuu.

Day 3 - Drive around Lake Pielinen, one of the biggest lakes of Finland towards Lieksa. You can stop at Vuonislahti on the way. Drive on to the Ruunaa Nature Reserve where you can take a walk in the nature before getting back to Koli for the night.

Day 4 - Visit the Koli National Park and the Ukko Nature Center. Drive northwards to Nurmes along the lakeside with beautiful views of the lake and islands. Overnight in Nurmes.

Day 5 - Drive to Kuopio for the night. Stop enroute at Puijo to visit the tower for panoramic views over the region. We recommend a cruise on the Lake Kallavesi from Kuopio.

Day 6 - Visit Jyvaskyla before continuing to Tampere, Scandinavia's largest inland city, for the night.

Day 7 - Drive back to Helsinki stopping on the way at Hameenlinna.
